is the 2 week turnaround a hard and fast rule? it says in one hard to find place on the website that the app should be returned in 2 weeks, but they dont make a big deal of it, like northwestern does. in people's experience, is turning it in 3 weeks after getting it a disadvantadge? i dont see why this 2 week thing is in place anyways.

No, it's perfectly ok if you don't send it in within 2 weeks, but I would try hard to get it in within a month. That's what I'm planning on doing.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but can someone else verify this??

It's fine, unless the school specifically quotes a deadline (Duke doesn't). Otherwise, two weeks is just a suggested timeframe, best followed so any advantages gained from an early AMCAS submission aren't screwed over by a late secondary submission.

Oh wow...I didn't realize there was even a suggested deadline for Duke...I got the secondary like a month ago and haven't even started it. :scared:

Oh, the suggested time is from SDN, sorry if I mistyped. Duke doesn't say anything about the timeframe.

Duke's supplemental deadline is December 20.

Duke said...

"We have designed a self-managed application process. It is your responsibility to monitor your Personal Account System (PAS) which will provide you with updates to your application. We do not send post cards or emails update your application status. The status of your application can be found on the right hand side of your Personal Account System home page. While the posted deadline for the Supplemental Application is December 20, 2007, we strongly recommended that you submit your Supplemental Application at least four (4) weeks prior to the December 20, 2007 deadline. Time must be allowed for screening of your application by the Admission Committee. We receive a large volume of applications and applying well before the deadline moves your application through the screening process in a timely manner and will give you more latitude to schedule an interview should your application receive a invitation to interview vote from the screening committee. ! If you are NOT offered an interview at DukeMed, you will receive an email confirming the committee's decision AND your status page will reflect that you have not been selected for an interview."

Ever seen me flip-flop? I should just stop offering advice.

Word of advice: a lot about getting into Duke (besides the obvious) is about how much you exhibit that you WANT to go to Duke. Ergo, a long turnaround time on your secondary is probably NOT the best idea in the whole word.

Just a suggestion.

Yeah, it took me a while to crank out the essays but I just submitted tonight and I'm glad I'm finally done! I would say, get moving on it, just because it's been out since the beginning of August.
