Trying to figure out how to rank these programs. Interested in going to a place with good clinical training and good fellowship/job placement. There were plusses and minuses to each of these programs but wanted to know what other people thought as well. Thanks!

I know some faculty who've shared Vandy is experiencing a significant financial crunch which is affecting support staffing at a minimum. Would expect training and post- opportunities excellent for all three.

I interviewed at Duke and thought it was excellent, a top flight institution that is made less competitive by its location. With an intentionally smaller class size and a majority stake in its very large catchment area, the training will be excellent. If you wanted, their cardiac, critical care, and regional fellowships are very strong and worth staying on for.

I know much less about the other institutions, but Vandy reportedly poached some excellent faculty from MGH a few years ago and should have strong teaching.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those programs. Go with where you feel you will be happiest or where you will have the support system to succeed. And if you liked all of them equally, with the match it may come down to who liked you.

I'm biased though. One of my best friends [was actually in my wedding] is at Duke for anesthesia, and I'm moving to Atlanta in a couple of months...

Duke. Residents were among the happiest, friendliest group I saw on the interview trail. Supportive administration and faculty. I liked the medium-sized class. Facilities were top-notch. Training emphasized quality over quantity. Duke comes down, as most places do, to location. Personally, I LOVED Durham. Mid-sized city, affordable housing, little traffic, cute shops and restaurants and plenty of things to do outdoors. If there was a job for my fiancé anywhere in the area Duke and Durham would have been hands-down my top choice. Sigh.
