Hey guys im having a hard time coming up with my rank list order. I was wondering what people out there thought about Duke. I really thought they had a solid program and was overall impressed. But i was wondering if people out there had differing opinions or could give me something to think about. Also did anyone hear back from the program after the interview?

thanks,
DA

Not sure about hearing anything back - I havent heard of anyone hearing anything, but I have heard from several big faculty/1-2 program directors that Duke is without question a top 5 program (at least according to them, not to bash the other 20 top 5 programs) and the name was given to me in the same esteem that UCSF, Hopkins, and MGH was - at least from an anesthesia standpoint. I guess they said that Duke has come on huge recently.

Met someone on the interview from a big institution, wont say which one, but a name people list as top 3 in anesthesia, and a faculty member at that program told them to go to Duke if they had the chance. I know they are phenoms in regional and think they are very good in neuro and cardiac, and above average in peds and pain - obviously go to penn if you want peds and cleveland clinic or something if you want pain - but what I was told is that they arent really deficient in anything and you can get a fellowship anywhere.

This could all be bs - just what I hear from faculty members at other institutions I know.

I interviewed there and then a few days later got a couple of articles written by the chairman along with a short handwritten note saying something to the tone of "if you get bored, here is a little reading material"

Sure it seemed like a strong program, but very much a "yes sir" type of place, residents seemed happy. They are supposed to be expanding their ORs and rebuilding stuff but not sure if that will be in time for us to be there. I was surprised that a lot of people went straight into private practice, thought more would go to fellowships. Strong program, and they know it, and they like to tell you if you know what i mean.

Echoing skittles, also received a packet articles on a topic of discussion I'd had with the chair. Loved the program, very yes sir, but every aspect was awesome.
