Is a research project and/or final paper that you present required to receive your DVM or just for PhDs/ residencies? Also, my _least_ favorite aspect of completing prereqs was working on presentations with lab partners. Am I going to have to do a lot of those in vet school? I will suck it up if I do- just want to psych myself up for what to expect.

Thank you!

We had a lot of partner/group projects and presentations. Many schools are incorporating collaborative learning and this often includes group work. That said, I generally didn't find vet school group projects half as annoying as undergrad projects because most people are reasonably motivated and will do their part.

We did have a final paper/presentation thing at AVC, we had to do a case study as both a presentation to clinicians, classmates and whoever else wanted to come, as well as write it up as a paper. But it was nothing on the scale of even an undergrad thesis, let alone a PhD.

No, there isn't a research project to complete your DVM. Yes, you have to work with other students for various projects. And it's good for you to learn this skill: working with people even when you don't want to. It's a lifelong skill that you will need in many areas of practice (clinical and non-clinical)

There's no thesis or dissertation required to get a DVM. There are a lot of presentations to give throughout vet school however, some done with others and some done alone. My vet school did require a Grand Rounds presentation of every 4th year student in order to graduate, but I don't think that is true of too many other vet schools. A Grand Rounds presentation is basically an in-depth discussion of a particular case you saw, given to the entire veterinary school (including vet students from all four years, the administration, and all vet school faculty), followed by a questioning period, when anyone in the audience can ask you anything about the case you just presented. I personally didn't sleep well for a full two weeks before mine 🙂

we had grand rounds for both large and small animal required in 4th year 🙂. We had several powerpoints we had to do for different classes and rotations and even a

I have to do a grand rounds presentation too.

I have to do two grand round presentations during my large animal rotations. Otherwise, I've had to mainly present articles for journal club in 4th year. I've had to do a few other presentations throughout the other years though and will have to do educational ones for the techs next year during my internship.

At RVC you have to do 2 research projects if you're in the 5 year program (1 in year 2, 1 in year 5 (I think?)). For the 4 year program you just have to do the last research project. I honestly don't know much about the research projects. I'll deal with that when I get there.

We have to do a third year research presentation that's more like a lit review than anything although we're allowed to present our own projects if we've done one. We also have various presentations required throughout our fourth year rotations.

I think dy just got kidnapped halfway through a message. Someone call the police!

Or maybe she transitioned into full zombie and is now wandering the streets looking for brains.

ha. It reverted to a previous half-saved message. The end should have been: "even a group paper for behavior."
