We just hired a foreign grad at the vet practice where I volunteer. He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow in Scotland. My question is this; As long as you pass the US NAVLE (or foreign equivalency standards) and state boards, can you call yourself "Dr." even though your degree is BVMS or some other combination. I believe in Europe, only individuals with PhD after their names may use the title "Dr."

Any answers?

You can call yourself a vet, which is really all that matters. A BVetMed is pretty much equivalent to a DVM, so I would think, for practical purposes, you could call yourself a doctor. BTW, Glasgow is AVMA accredited so there would be no need to take the ECFVG to practice here in the US(just the required state-licensing exam).
