I got offers from both Duquesne and U Minnesota, pretty confused which to choose from. Duquesne has three year weekend program, very attractive to me; while UMN ranks very high among the pharmacy schools. I also loves Minneapolis the city better. Anyone can tell me the ranking of the school affects job opportunities? Is there any potential problems for the weekend program?

The ranking of the school probably does not affect retail job opportunities; however, if you are considering residency, the higher ranked school probably has better connections, and you have better chances of finding prestigous residency. Also if you would like to go into more non-traditional fields of pharmacy, the higher ranked school might provide better opportunities.
However, I will be attending UMN so I am more biased. UMN has a variety of placements for P4 rotations and also opportunities for research and international pharmacy. Check this out:

i was accepted to duq too! i want to go there because of the 3 years and weekened program! i'm going to wait to see if i am accepted anywhere else..

only bad thing is that there is no on campus dorming...we'll have to get apt and I really wanted to live on campus...

LFB -

When did you interview and when did you find out? I interviewed on the 12th of January and haven't gotten anything yet!

I dont know if I can trust myself to do the weekend program. It would be hard to get yourself motivated and study everything on my own. I would pick UMN even though it's an extra year, but you might need those breaks in between.

Sorry - Minnesota is where I am talking about.

drugdoc,

I interviewed at UMN last October for the early decision, got accepted after two weeks. I am pretty impressed by the research and teaching facilities of the school. One of my friend was also interviewed Jan12, he is also waiting.

how can one get a pharmD in 3 years on a 'weekend' program when other schools such as USN, LECOM, and worcester have to go in all weekdays for 3 years?

because you go all year long, in the summer too..

And because Duquesne's weekend program is a post-bacc. So you already have to have a science bacherlor's degree with biochem, anatomy, etc....
