I am intrested in attending these schools after High School for their pharmacy program. However, could someone give me some more details about these schools. Are they good schools or mediocre? Would you recommend going to a diffrent college (getting a BA and then applying to some better schools) And are SAT II's required?

Duquense is a very good school by reputation, but I don't know much about the programs. USP is not considered that great among other students butttttttt you do come out with the same Doct. of pharmacy degree and its suppose to be easier than other pharmacy schools, they're lenient on the gpa cut offs to get into the professional years. I don't know much about albany or UOP. Also look at St. John's, LIU, and MCPHS-Boston they prefer high school students.

I see. So in what ways is duq. better than Phil and vice versa.

I go to University of the Sciences. Trust me it is considered a good pharmacy school, today, i had to interview a pharmacist in my hometown in indiana and when i told him what school i was in he knew that it was a good school. Plus eli lilly went there and it is a historical university. Anyways it deserves to be ranked higher than Duquesne University cause Duquesne University's pre-pharm is no contest to usp's pre-pharm. seriously look at this: duquesne doesn't require anatomy/ microbiology/histology. all of which is a needed basis for pharmacy. and usp does. http://www.pharmacy.duq.edu/srvPreCur.html vs. http://www.usip.edu/majors/pharmacy.shtml . seems like duquesne offers a lot of useless classes to me at least. i bet the school is good though. not to diss it...

finally. usp isn't lenent at all with there pre-pharm. if you fail anything you are automatically kicked out of the school. no second chance. it doesn't even matter if it is a bullcrap subject. at least with schools like butler university, they still consider you for pharmacy if you don't maintain there averages.

the good thing about usp is that you just have to maintain a 2.7 gpa cumulative. and 2.3 math/science gpa. to move on.

I'm getting diff opinion from people. One person told me that USP is considered crappy, some say it's good. Don't know what to beleive.

I want to go to a 0-6 year pharmacy school. Of course, a good school. But i'm not sure which schools are good and which aren't anymore 😕

It's understandable that different people will have different perspectives depending on their own experiences. Also, note that not everyone knows about this SDN forum, so possibly, all the people that favors USP (or vice versa) can't voice their opinions on the school and therefore, you are not getting a complete picture anyways. I think instead of putting all your money on a school simply based on other people's opinions, you should visit/call the schools and see where You fit best and where you can thrive. In the end, you will still get that same Pharm D. degree and that's all that matters.

Exactly what guytim says. Definitely go to each school and see if you like it. Talk to students there and faculty members. Look at the settings, maybe you wont like USP's city life - maybe you do. Ultimately you all end up with the same degree.

I believe going to USP is the best option since it is a historic school located in the "silicon valley" of pharm companies. I would definitely go there over Duquesne.

You would have more options besides retail by going to USP because of its great locatino and proximity to all the pharm companies in the corridor from Philadelphia to New York.

I'm a bit unsure if I wanna go to a 0-6 year pharmacy program. I live in California, and if I go to USP i'm going to have to move all the way to phily. I've lived in Cal all my life, and I think it's going to be a bit difficult. When I go to Phily i'm starting a whole new life, and then once I graduate from the school and move back to Cal i'll have to start my life over again 🙁

haha tell me about it. i am moving from indiana to philly in a few days and this is a permanant move. all my friends are going to colleges in indiana so i probably won't be able to hang with them in the summer. everyone here is from different places though. like one girl is from okalahoma. although the majority are from maryland, new jersey, and pennsylviana it is still a hell of a drive from the city to their homes. so everyone is in the same boat as you....(at whatever college you go to.)

i agree with one of the posts above you. people believe different things about different schools. go check out the school and see if it is a match. some schools are for some people...some schools are for others.

i like the idea of 0-6 years cause it isn't like you have to worry about pcats or wasting 2 years more to get an undergrade in chem or something. but of course there is the option of doing the non 0-6 year way and cali has some really good schools like ucsf.

Heh, UCSF's pharmacy school is #1 in America, getting in isn't easy.

However, what I was planning on doing origanlly was go to UCLA for 4 years, get a bachleors degree, and from there apply to pharmacy school. However, I am afraid I won't get into one of the top schools and then going to a pharmacy school like Albany or USP and by then I will have wasted 2 years by not going into a 0-6 year program. USP and Albany are both on very good pharmacy schools, however, I could have gone their directlyand saved time, money and stress.

I assume you mean going to a 0-6 year program is a good plan.

righto. at least for me it was. some people might like the challenge and difficulty of the prepharm to pharm. deal.
