During M1 year, what did your study schedule look like?

RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I hated my schedule. +pissed+ +pissed+ +pissed+ GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

If you spend a couple hours studying everyday then when it comes time for tests, you can study hardcore for a week and do really well. That's what I did, but we had a block schedule so we only had 2-3 classes to study for at a time (we just went through the material quicker). The key is to stay on top of things no matter what. If you take a day or two off, that is totally fine, but don't take like a week off, because you will be sorry when you are studying for the test. Another key is to get up and study on the weekends and get it over with!! If you devote a certain # of hrs a day on the weekend to study and do it first thing, you have the afternoon/evening to have fun.

However, if you want to be 1st in your class, you will have to study every waking minute. It's your call.

You have to study more 2nd year so get used to it now. 1-2 hours a day wasn't enough for me to stay on top of things 2nd year, so I quit going to class in order to still have free time. 😉

M-F: Stay up until 4 am reading a book or playing a game, then sleep in until 2pm.

Sat and Sun: Stay up until 7 am and wake up around 4 the next afternoon.

I would study the night before an exam, and ONLY the night before, as I really didn't enjoy the material, and didn't care one way or the other which grade I earned. Might sound kind of negative, but I actually really enjoyed my "M1 year" 😀

My M2 year was when I really started school

i've got my fingers crossed that my m1 is just like yours. however, i'm a bit nervous b/c i think i killed every last brain cell this summer..........

we've exams every monday! Like full exams, not quizzes!!
Add to that that we've exams sometimes on weds too, so some weeks mon and wed!

I'll be studyign M-Th, take friday night off, and study Sat and SUn

Monday exams here too!
I hated Mondays, and even more so after having something like 6 straight weeks of Monday exams. Aside from the great social upheval of no longer having weekends, the day to day grind wasn't too bad, normally hard science in the mornings and something light and fluffy like patient-doctor after lunch.

Which schools are known to be easier to deal with and which require constantly studying (i.e. frequent exams, quizzes, etc)?

😎

ku med=easy? please please please. down with studying.

Wow! Any particular way you studied, flash cards, rewrite notes, just reread lecture notes, or did you quiz yourself with made up questions? Or did you question on weekends only?

Ok how in the world do you adjust to the studying. In undergrad, I barely ever studied. Now however, I am feeling the burn. My school has a summer introduction into medical school. It gives us a taste of what the fall is going to be like. However, seeing how these couple of weeks are stressing me out, I am scared to death of the fall and the other years here. :scared: .
So for anyone that is a first year and has some ideas or upperclassmen, how did you get through the first year

It depends if your school has adequate notes available for your classes. I pretty much stopped going to class after anatomy, and I'd do whatever for a week or so. About three days or so before a test, that's when I'd start studying, and it would be three intense days full of caffeine and cigarettes (I know they're bad) and all nighters.

I don't suggest you do this in med school, though. I plan to do things the right way next year.

I never studied in undergrad. When I started med school I wasn't studying and had to pull all-nighters to pass my exams. Finally I realized that med school is not about partying...it is about learning to become the best doctor possible. Eventually, I learned how to study and started enjoying learning and getting really good grades.
I study every OTHER day for 6 hours per day. I don't skip classes unless they are REALLY bad. I basically summarize all the notes and then two days before an exam go back through my notes and make a sheet with everything in my notes that I don't understand and I keep reviewing that until the exam. Also, here they post all exams and I make sure I know those cold. If the exam involves slides, etc. then I wake up early the day of the exam and cram those.
