hi, is all the group 7 (like Br, and Cl etc) electron donating?? im so confused on these particular elements...

Halogens are deactivating because of the inductive withdrawal of electron density from the ring, yet are ortho para directors

I have a question. If you have NO_2_ on toulene with FeBr_3_/Br_2_ where does it go? Does it follow the o,m,p rules of the Nitro group or the CH_3_ group?

it will always favor the activating group over the deactivating group so in your case the Br would add ortho/para from the methyl group.
