Early Acceptance: Who is going for it?

Who is going for early acceptance? I am applying early acceptance at University of Alabama-Birmingham. Any other UAB bound people on the boards?

I like your confidence. 👍

If you have the stats for early acceptance at UAB then you have a very good shot.

19 of 21 were accepted early acceptance two years ago.

I like my chances.

Wow, 19 out of 21!!! I thought schools usually accept about 2-3 EDs.

Anywayz, GOOD LUCK! You might be done with this process before it even really starts.

Thank you, UAB really likes and encourages EA. Where are you planning on heading to?

I am applying this cycle as well. Hoping my state school will accept me early so I can save some $$$ on the travel costs for interviews. 😀

Not me, the money of applying to a broad range of schools isn't all that significant compared to the big big picture.

Good luck with that. I guess this is about the only thing about being from Alabama(UAB is a great school and it is my state school) besides Auburn.

Where are you from?

It isnt the money that bothers me. Nothing really bothers me. UAB is just an awesome place and their new facilities are awesome. I want to be there bad.

Oh I was refering to Doc. Chiq. If you have your heart set on a school, by all means for ED. Nothing beats getting accepted at your top choice a year before school starts, that would be a sweet year.

Yeah thats what I am all about. That would be a stress free school year!

UAB has a terrific match list. good luck

I'm from Jersey and I like my chances at my state school. But don't get me wrong. I am applying to 27 schools. 🙂 I have added alot of safety schools (for lack of a better word) to my list as well as couple reaches for just in case. What I meant by saving money is if I get into my state school early, then I can withdraw my apps from alot of other schools that I applied just in case I don't get into my state school. So in that sense, I can save some money on flying and such. 😉

Whoa 27 to 1, how much was that on AMCAS?

I racked up $940 already. I don't even want to think about how much I have to pay for secondaries. :scared:

Shades, I'm at Auburn just like you.

I barely had the GPA for EDP (3.61), but I had 36R (15VR, 12PS, 9BS) on the MCAT so I went ahead and applied EDP. I'll also have a MS in Chemical Engineering in August. Plus, I hear Nathan Smith really like me (for whatever that's worth). What do you think? Hopefully we'll be classmates come October.

Yeah hopefully, I am applying with a 3.96 in Molecular Biology but you got me beat on the MCAT. I only have a 33 (12ps 11bs 10v). There are going to be a lot of us over there at UAB. War Damn Eagle.

I have this posted somewhere else, but I figured I'd reach more people this way...

I've got a 3.92 GPA (in Neuroscience), wrote a thesis, did tons of EC's, my PS might not be great, but okay. I got PS: 10, BS: 11, VS: 12, and WS O. I'm working for a year in neurology research. I want to go ED at UMASS. What do you think? I'm really really afraid of the risk, but if my chances are good I want to go for it!

War Eagle, Shades! I'm looking forward to one more football season on the Plains before med school. You should get in with those numbers. You done any shadowing around Auburn?

I'd go for it at UMass, doc. The worst case scenario (from my point of view) is you get thrown back into the regular applicant pool, where you get accepted eventually anyway (your stats are all above average for UMass). EDP will show them how much you want to go to their school.

One caveat: if you're not a Massachusetts resident, disregard what I just posted.

Yeah I shadow a general surgeon at EAMC. I have been doing it for about a year. I have seen probably 100 procedures. I love every second.

Hell yeah I am ready for football. My bro plays so I have an inside track on information about the team. You ready to order those tickets here soon?

His name is Alex Howell. Walk on. PLaying special teams this year.

could someone tell me what early action is? is this an option available at all schools? Is there some reason that they have this option available? Is it for people that plan on traveling abroad or just for people that wish to get in early so they can party for a year?

EA = early acceptance. If you apply EA, you can only apply to one school; all your other applications are on hold until that one school decides whether they want to accept you early (think the deadline for letting you know is August.) If they don't let you in early, then your applications to other schools get submitted (and you get put into the normal applicant pool for the school that you applied EA to), but this means that you're a bit later than the people who just sent in their AMCAS in June or whatever. EA is worth it if you REALLY REALLY want to go to a certain school, and have the stats to match that school. In other words, you'd want to be pretty sure you'll get into a certain school if you applied there EA. Also, not all schools offer EA.

Hope this helps! Think I'm correct on this info, but others feel free to add!

Elephunt pretty much nailed it except they have until October 1 to let me know.
