Hoping for some logical advice here.... I'm interested in a few different electives for 3rd year:
1. Cardio
2. EM
3. Med crit care

Problem is one of my electives is up front where all I will have had before it is a selective (probably a gen IM month) and psych. I already know that probably won't be a great foundation for any of the above electives but I'm wondering if one of them might be better suited to the limited experience I will have at that point? I'm not sure I would want to do gen IM since I will already have 4 months of that total in 3rd yr.

thanks

A general IM month would be a perfectly fine foundation for either cards or MICU. You will have plenty of patients on IM that you either transfer to or from the ICU, and I guarentee you will be consulting cards plenty of times over the course of a month; therefore you will have plenty of opportunities to read notes written by those teams, which will at least give you a slight idea of how each of those services operate.
