Hi guys,
my first post ever, but I've been curious about this question for a little while now, and I can't really find any recent forums that cover the topic. Is there any information that people have heard on early match+ normal match couples? does anyone have an experience to share or know of someone who navigated this successfully? I just want to get an idea of how big of a hurdle this would be. Thanks!

I'm afraid I don't understand your question.

Are you asking about the possibility of couples matching when one of you goes through an early specialty and the other the usual match?

If perhaps you gave more information, such as the specialties and the match dates, we can offer more guidance.

yes the question would be about 1 person going through early match and the other going through the usual match. neurosurgery or orthopedics and an early match specialty is what we are going for. step 1 scores are 240+ and 250+ on step 2 both received 250+. I'm just curious on seeing if anyone has dealt with/seen couples successfully deal with matching together this way.

So you're targeting 2 very competitive specialties (with potentially competitive applicants...Step scores do not a CV make) which is tough with the Couples Match. Now you're throwing in a 2nd variable which will make things even tougher. the good news is, assuming you're talking about Ophtho or Urology for the early match, you'll know where Person A matched before Person B's ROL is due. Then you adjust ROL B accordingly, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

There is no formal system for this of course, but assuming you target large cities (NYC, Boston, Chicago, LA), you have a reasonable chance of making it work out.

And to answer your question, yes, I've seen it work. I've also seen it not work.
