I am going to contact my branch manager. However, I was wondering if any of you know if it is possible to be released a month early from you active duty committment to attend civilian educational programs.

My ETS is Aug 2006. However, I'd like to start residency on time in a civilian program on 1 July. Provided that I get accepted into a civilian program, is it possible to get released early?

Enlisted have procedures for securing early release (a month or 2) from their contracts to start school. I had a member in my command do exactly that. If they can do it, why not you?

Here is the MILPERSMAN section for early release for education for enlisted members. I couldn't find any similar section for O's. Good luck.

Another thought, if you have leave saved up, is to take terminal leave.

no leave time saved up...I am really behind the eight ball here...is it possible, having only completed an internship and 2 years as a GMO (essentially outpatient clinic work) and possessing a medical license to work at an urgent care center for a year and return to residency the following year?

Option B would be to enter in the military GME. However, if I do any sort of military GME I would be incurring an additional 1 to 1 ADO, correct?

Another option could be to make the civilian programs aware of your situation and negotiate a late start to your residency. Many anesthesia programs, for example, have half the residents start in July and half in August. I can't see why other programs wouldn't be willing to do the same thing.
