Hi everyone, I am planning on applying to the match in the next several weeks. I'm not expecting to get any interviews at this point, I just want to get my application materials to all the programs that I may be able to scramble into. I'm a US medical grad with no course failures but my resume is tarnished with repeated failures of USMLE step 1 & 2. I'm hoping to get my passing score for step 2 within the next week or so. Actually if I don't pass this time I'll be dismissed from med school with no MD degree even having completed all course work.
Bottom line is that I need a job. I don't care what residency I get right now. My dream was to become an anesthesiologist but that will have to be put on hold. In my preliminary research it seems obvious that a PGY1 preliminary surgery is far and away the easiest residency to land. If I'm wrong about this please correct me. Next easiest is family med followed by pathology. After that either preliminary medicine or psychiatry I couldn't decide which. I want to stay in Philadelphia so I plan on applying to the 30 local programs that historically haven't filled at least one time in the past 5 years. Anyone have a better strategy for me? Please let me know. I'm also desperate for work to bridge the gap between now and the start of a residency. Thanks in advance. Also if anyone could suggest other forums to potentially post this question in please let me know.
