Hello,
I'm new to SDN, but so far I've found a lot of useful information!
I have a few questions that I could use help with though. For calculating my BCPM gpa do I have to include ALL of my math courses, or just the ones I've taken for my major (Calc 1)? I'm going for a math minor, and two of the classes I took for that are the only classes I've ever gotten less than an A on. It's annoying that it seems to drag down my gpa so much. It'll average out a little better once I've taken more biology courses, I know, but still...
Also, I feel like I'm behind on my EC's, so I was hoping for some advice. I really want to volunteer at a hospital, but I haven't yet. Luckily I'm at the UMN-Twin Cities, and there's a hospital right on campus, but I don't know how to start volunteering. Do I need to fill out some kind of application, or just contact someone at the hospital? Will it be any issue that I have no experience?
I made a list below of all the stuff I've done so far (which has very few medical related things), so if you're willing and interested, I'd love feedback. I feel like academically/stats wise I am or will be competitive, but I'm not so confident about my extras.
Thank you!
What I've been up to:
* Honors Program (going to be starting project/thesis for this soon)
* Officer of Compassionate Action for Animals (animal rights group)
* Minority Association for PreMed Students
* Biology without Borders
* Minnesota Programs & Activities Council, Major Events (plan concerts)
* Learning Assistant for the Physics Department (TA + Tutor)
* Involved with The Navigators (a Christian student group)
* 1000+ volunteer hours at my church
* College of Biological Sciences Mentor Program
What I plan to do this year (my junior year):
* I've applied for multiple Lab Assistant Jobs
* Want to volunteer and job shadow at the hospital on campus
* Applied to be a tutor for under-prepared students
* Start my Honors Research project
