Hi! Do practicing attendings recertify for echo and nuc boards these days? The place where I will be working at does not require them for the job, only cardiology boards. Now I am wondering why everyone still even takes echo and nuc boards in the first place.. Anyways, if I let them expire and say move to another job that does require the boards, can I still take them? Thanks!

Not everyone does and I think most understand these exams are a moneygrab. I think peer pressure is a big reason during training. In some places radiologists read nuc's which may be a motivation to be certified as a cardiologist. SPECT is such a crap test anyway I am glad I did not spend the money to certify.
