Echo Boards 2025

Klein questions are harder. ASE questions about similar to the real exam. That being said, if you know the answers to Klein questions very well (do them at least twice), I'm sure you will do well on the exam. Don't forget about the Mayo echo videos.

I disagree with this 100%. I thought Klein questions were easy and ASE harder and very similar to the real exam.

I'm doing BoardVitals questions, I'll let you know how they compare with the ASE practice exam (which is incredibly difficult to access, I haven't figured it out yet).

For board review, I took the livestreaming version of Mayo 2025 and have online-only ASE as well.

Finished BoardVitals, they are a very good resource and preparation for doing the ASE questions. I'm happy with their quality. Also, comparing Mayo echo board review with ASE echo board review, Mayo is very good but ASE has stuff that they don't cover and that shows up in the ASE Qbank verbatim.

Does anyone know what a good % is for the ASE practice exams/qbank to pass these boards safely? I need them for my job

Finished ASE Qbank, all 300 questions (Exam 1 and 2) once. Score was 60% on the first exam and 72% on the second exam.
Will take a couple days to review notes/watch Mayo again and will go back to BoardVitals to do the questions I did wrong again.

How did you access the ASE practice exams? I tried this link: https://asecho.my.site.com/CPBase__item?id=a2l4A0000026wh7QAA

But it won't let me login to check out. Tried as guest as well. I am an ASE member and verified my login works. Their site is such a cluster.

I ended up buying the Pegasus Qbank. It's actually quite harder than the ASE Qbank but it is useful to hammer down some difficult to grasp yet very testable concepts.

What are you folks doing as prep for the final few weeks before the exam? What strategies are you following?

Anyone know what % on the ASE practice exams at least rough translates to a passing score on the real thing?

The echo boards this year (2025) weren't bad; they were pretty fair, to be honest. I took it in 2021 while still a fellow and failed it; I hope I pass this time around. I did notice that the interface looks much cleaner, more modern, and the updated scientific calculator - I LOVED IT. We can finally square stuff and see what we're doing with our equations.

The third block was the hardest for me, and I almost run out of time. The physics portion of the exam was the most challenging, and they didn't require many physics calculations; instead, they focused on asking about concepts. So that was hard. However, I think it was a very fair exam overall.

Only time will tell if I passed. I hope I did because I studied HARD for this, and I need it for my job.

I agree with the above—overall, the exam felt much fairer than I had expected based on prior comments.

I had around 15 minutes of review time in each block, which I think reflects how reasonable and straightforward many of the questions were. The exception was my second block, which took the most time and left me with about 7 minutes to review.

Image quality was acceptable—not bad at all. The calculator was easy to use, and the question stems were generally concise.

Regarding ACHD, I wouldn’t say there were many questions, but a fair number for sure. I felt a few were challenging.

Study materials I used:
  • Mayo Echo Board Review (watched once)
  • Klein Echo Review Book – did all questions and re-reviewed ones I got wrong
  • Edelman Physics PDF
  • BIDMC Cardiac Anesthesia Physics Handout – easily found online, super helpful
I took the ASE practice exams after a month of study: scored >85% on the first and >90% on the second.

I didn’t use any other materials. If you have solid hands-on experience with TTE/TEE in daily practice, I think the resources above should be sufficient.
