Do any New Yorkers have any info on this? Like what specifically qualifies you to get EDPS loans and how much you can take out, interest rates, etc?

Economically Disadvantaged First Professional Study Program (EDPS)
The Economically Disadvantaged First Professional Study Program (EDPS) is a partial tuition waiver program funded by New York State in conjunction with participating educational institutions. This program provides partial tuition waivers to full time Medical, Dental, Pharmacy and Law students who are pursuing graduate or first professional degrees, and who are determined to have exceptional need by the Financial Aid Office.

Who is eligible for EDPS
To be considered for this partial tuition waiver, you must:

• Be enrolled as a full time professional student in the Medical, Dental, Pharmacy or Law Schools
• File your FAFSA by March 1 of each award year
• Be a resident of New York State
• Be either a U.S. citizen, or eligible non-citizen
• Have a demonstrated Exceptional Financial Need

How to apply for EDPS

• Complete and submit the FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. UB’s priority filing date is March 1 of each year.
• Even if you are independent and/or married, you must answer all of the questions in the parent information sections of the FAFSA to be considered for EDPS. Leaving blanks in these sections will exclude you from consideration for this waiver.
• After May 1, students who are deemed eligible will be notified and instructed to submit EDPS verification documentation. Initial award letters will not include the EDPS award as in previous years. PLEASE NOTE: A student selected as an EDPS candidate does not guarantee approval of this partial waiver. A separate approval letter will be sent to the student if he/she retained eligibility after the verification process has been completed.
• Students who are not able to provide parent information due to a special circumstance should schedule an appointment with a financial aid advisor by calling 716-645-8232. A parent’s unwillingness to provide this information does not constitute a special circumstance.
