Hello all! I'm aware that minors do not matter, however, my degree requires me to declare one. I'm stuck between economics and cultural anthropology, as I have a genuine interest in both subjects.

I was wondering if any of y'all had any experience with either subjects? Did either have real life applications past undergrad? Do you see any potential use in applying either of the subjects in the practice of medicine? Did you like studying these subjects in general?

Thanks in advance!

I really enjoyed my cultural anthropology classes (though my interests tend to be more into physical/forensic anth) it can really be an eye opening experience learning how to critically view cultural factors.
Economics on the other hand will well prepare you for a career at Starbucks.

If you're interested in healthcare policy, a solid understanding of economics will be really helpful. My undergrad degree is in econ. While my plan is to become a clinical physician, I'm hoping to at least occasionally be involved in some policy work/research over the course of my career, and I will definitely be putting my undergrad degree to work for that.

Depending on the courses you take, econ can also help with statistical and data analysis skills. The skills you learn in an econometrics course will be applicable to hard science research.

I definitely recommend majoring in economics. And consider majoring/minoring in finance with it. Best subjects by far and the skills you learn (for instance, math and statistics) will help in the hard sciences, especially in medicine (e.g. health policy, health economics etc.). I'm probably biased since I did a lot of significant work in economics in college and regularly read economic/finance news (e.g. Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Financial Times etc.).
