Hello everybody. I'm a second year pre-med psychology major and although I COMPLETELY screwed up freshman year (well, actually just the science and math courses), I'm still determined to go to medical school.

I was told by almost everybody that an upward trend in grades, decent or stellar MCATs, and decent or stellar ECs might get me into medical school (not a school like Harvard or Johns Hopkins obviously). My question is: what kind and how many ECs do I need?

My university offers soooooo many clubs and organizations. I was making a list of clubs that I wanted to join and then I stopped by this forum and was given the impression that medical schools require only medical things. X00 hours of clinical experience and X0 hours of shadowing??? What constitutes clinical experience and how much do I need? How much shadowing? My father is an internist - can I just shadow him or do I have to shadow multiple doctors?

Should I focus on the clubs that UGA offers right now and worry about shadowing and clinical experience in the summer?

Thanks in advance!

Does not have to be a medical related activity, as long as you can tie it in to medicine and how it will help you become a better doctor. But make sure when you join these sorts of clubs you don't just become a member, you need to be active and become a leader. Or even more so if you start your own organization and achieve something it will be much more impressive on your apps. Lastly, yes you need to get your volunteering hours done just like the rest of us. gL
