Ecu

Pros:
Close to my long term partner (1hr 45 min dr)
Cheaper (24 k tuition but also general cost of living)
Same curriculum essentially
Could still maybe get plastics residency but not sure I could get a competitive one out of nc state?
Family nearby (kinda and not all of my relatives)

Cons:
Where I grew up (had a traumatic childhood there; it’s the boondocks but apparently it’s now up and coming they say🫠-haven’t been back in yrs)
Residency match list is so so (from what I’ve heard)
The School isn’t ranked that high on good med school lists in general but 20 something i think for internal/family medicine (but that’s not what I’m trying to even do)

Drexel (place near Philly)

Pros:
I could be near Philly (but waiting on campus reassignment-right now assigned at west reading)
If I’m near Philly, train is only 1hr 20 min from nyc and my close best college friends
If I’m near Philly, near a more metropolitan area so I.e. more stuff to do and explore in a city
Residency match list is better (is what I’ve heard but I’m wondering how true this is-I’m trying to do plastics)

Cons:
Far away from my long term partner
Far away from family (my aunt n uncle live in chapel hill and my dad still lives in nc too-although we mostly text and I see him rarely in person)
Costs +100k/yr
I don’t know anyone in philly area
If I’m at the campus farther from philly (reading) I’m with a cohort of only 40 some students and I’m in a less desirable city
Also only like 10 points higher on ranked med school list so not considered that much better

Essentially everyone close to me says to go to ecu (cheaper and could still get a great education-i just need to know if going to ecu will hurt my chances of getting a great residency or if Drexel is that much better)

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much!!

Also maybe Drexel has more opportunities for research given that ecu predominante puts great emphasis on internal/fam medicine and giving back to its rural community

No, go to ECU. Drexel doesn’t give enough opportunities to be worth 400k. The school is so big that they usually have some great students who go on to match well.
