Associated Press:'EICU' Lets Doctors Monitor Many Patients

This whole ICU idea is getting more attractive by the moment. 5 million patients, 6000 intensivists nationwide, (and most of them medicine and surgeons). With an electronic monitoring system, this makes me feel like I'm in the OR.

Instead of Shy-Draeger, I got a bunch of monitors, in the comfort of my own home. Hmmmm...

Biggest plus? --> ICU is ONLY A YEAR on top of Anesthesia. Some cases, they'll let you start the ICU fellowship halfway through your fourth year (BANG - you're done after 3.5 years). Not a bad deal for fast track intensive care.

So stop complaining about CRNA's and become an intensivist in 6 months.

Rock on.

Unless the RRC has recently created a combined Anesth/CCM residency/fellowship similar to EM/IM/CCM, you still need to complete a 1 year fellowship.

Sorry, no fast track. Training inadequacies are another topic for debate.

OK so ...1)

Chill.

2) What is EM/IM/CCM? Is it one of those EM "I go to England to be backward certified because the US RRC doesn't board us EM docs?" or something else? Why would you doe IM AND EM AND CCM. I guess us fast track guys aren't as well versed in the tremendous wastes of time.

3) NYU anesthesia has a combined CT+ICU 1.5 year fellowship, and word is Penn will actually let you get started early. I don't have this on paper, but that's at least what they told us in the interviews.

4) What's a dude like you doing in an anesthesia forum? Stop sweatin' the CCM trends?

eICU BABY!
