Hello All.

I am new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone had any inside information on Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Anesthesiology program. I know the program is currently on probation. When I visited there, the new program director (Dr. CS) made it seem like the program has changed its course, and everything is now stable. From what I could tell, the program is good.

However, I recently heard the Dr. CS is no longer the PD at Einstein. This was a sudden change, wanted to know if anyone else had any advice on this program, and had any info on why Dr. S left? Im in the process of doing my ROL, and don't know if I should even put Einstein on my ROL given the program's instability.

Thanks in advance

When and from whom did you hear that Dr. S left?! I've worked with him when he was at my school. He's a fantastic anesthesiologist and would make an incredible PD. With him and Dr. D as a team, I'm sure the program would be back to normal in no time. They both have extensive experiences in their respective roles. If he did leave, I do not understand why. He was pretty clear that he was there to stay....

I just met with CS 3 weeks ago. Has something changed within that time? Can someone confirm he is still the PD.

I would like to know about this. I noticed that the last email was sent by the chairman and not the PD.

I heard it over the weekend from a friend who is also applying to the program. Does anyone have any other information about this? I also met with CS earlier this month for an interview. If this is true (My friend told me he confirmed this through the hospital), I don't know if the program is worth ranking. If anyone has any extra information/advice about the program, I'd appreciate it.

This information is unfortunately true (im an einstein med student and involved in anesthesiology). Dr. D is now the acting PD until 2012...

There is, of course, only rumors so I won't speculate why. As of yet no one has said anything official besides it was for "personal" reasons.

What is the latest with this saga of why the PD left so suddenly? Quite shocking. I knew him when he was at a different NY hospital.

I email him at his Einstein address and the server replied that the email is no longer recognized. What dose that mean now? I interviewed with Dr CS not DrD, she doesn't know me personally!

So its official. My questions is: how does this affect how we should look at this program. On one hand, Einstein has a reputation of being a big-name university. But inside the Anesthesiology World, many see this as an unstable program. I still don't know why Dr. S left only a few months after being hired. I know the residents were not happy before Dr. S arrived. Can this affect fellowship placements for the next few years? I am still considering this program because of location, but it is not my top choice because of the uncertainty of the program. I'm debating whether its worth leaving the NYC area, to go to a more stable program. Any advice?

It may take longer for the program to come off probation since it looks bad to have lost another PD so soon. But its unlikely that the program would fold completely, especially with Dr. D in charge.

It probably would not affect fellowship placement because the program is on probation, not the residents. However, there is still that danger that the program is gone..which places with 4-5 year accrediation don't have

Wow, so Dr. Scher left? I had the same problem with the email bouncing back. No wonder. That's too bad. I wonder what the deal is. He seemed like he had some great things planned for the program. Too bad.
