Hi guys, I was almost set on Harvard until I got a full tuition scholarship from Einstein. The option of going to med school for free is very tempting and I am having a hard time to decide between the two now, please help! Thanks a lot

Einstein:

pros
  • full tuition scholarship for all 4 years
  • proximity to home, family and friends
  • seemed like a chill environment with friendly people
  • strong likelihood of matching in NYC
  • on campus apartments are nice and not really dorm like
cons:
  • Its in the Bronx
  • Lower ranked than Harvard
Harvard

pros
  • REACH scholarship
  • It’s Harvard!
  • A ton of research opportunities.
  • Early clinical exposure.
  • P/F for rotations except for the chosen specialty (from what I understood)
  • Living in a new city
cons
  • might have to take out some loan for tuition (I haven’t gotten my financial award yet)
  • No summer break?
  • 4 hours away from my family in NYC

Wait if you got the REACH scholarship don’t they cover everything over your EFC? Go to Harvard!

That’s what I’ve heard but not sure because I haven’t gotten my aid package yet
I was under the impression that the award was given for significant financial need + merit. So I’m sure it’ll be a generous offer.

Update this post once you have it; personally if the COA < or = Einstein, and you have no significant reason you’d want to attend Einstein, I’d pick Harvard. Ik you said Einstein is closer to friends/family but Boston and NYC are about as close as two cities can get, so I’m sure you’ll still be able to see them frequently.

Yup, reach is based on merit and need, I’ll update the post once I find out about my aid, thanks

Harvard is Harvard. But As a current Einstein student, you can still do anything you want here. Our match lists are great. If you have specific questions about the school hit me up. I really love Einstein, but man, Harvard is hard to pass up.

Plus to address some of the pros you put under Harvard: research is also super easy to find at Einstein (first year and I'm already doing research in 2 surgical subspecialties on track to publish in both) and there is also a LOT of early clinical exposure, like I'd say I was at some kind of clinical setting once or twice a week my first year so far.

But the Harvard name really counts for something.

Thanks a lot! I’ll pm you with specific questions. Knowing what you know now about Einstein, which school would you pick if you were in my shoes?
