Hey...this may be a stupid question but if you were to choose between Einstein and Downstate, which one would it be? i've been weighing the pros and cons for both and am kinda stuck.
Since i'm NY res. Downstate is SOOO MUCH CHEAPER (~$18000) compared to (~$35000). Clinical experience for downstate is amazing.
Einstein does have a higher ranking (though i dunno how much i would consider this). Dorms are nice. Hospitals are pretty good. and the FAcility def. a lot newer and "better" then downstate.

If you care about going into academics, ie research, go to Einstein, if not, go to Downstate and save 17K x 4= 68,000 dollars...enough to buy a new BMW or something...SUNY schools usually match very well in NYC hospitals if you're interested in staying close to home.

Hurry up, too, I want an acceptance too...🙄

I'd say Downstate, save yourself the money. I don't think there's enough difference in reputation or quality of education to justify the additional expense unless like labrat said you're interested in academic medicine/research.

I am on the HPWL at Downstate... I say Einstein and hurry up please... jk

go einstein...but i'm just a taaaaad bit biased.
good luck either way!😉

i'm picking einstein over my two state schools as well....

Did you withdraw from downstate? I got the call from Downstate this morning... thanks

So you got accepted...congrats

To correct NYCgurl, Downstate does not have a rank (with US News anyways) because they do not participate in the survey. Hence the best indicator of which school is better in my opinion is the match list. Both schools have similar match stats, and while I agree that research opportunities are better overall at Einstein, Downstate does have some great research options. So even if you are into academics Downstate could have some great things to offer, and you just can't beat the price!

PhysicsMD, what do you mean when you say Downstate doesn't participate in the survey and is therefore not ranked? I never thought much about how the list is compiled, since I wasn't shooting for a ranked school anyway, but since you brought it up, I'm curious.....

Downstate is ranked 7th among its graduates going into academic medicine. That would be odd if they weren't strong in academic medicine.

I guess by survey is meant the statistics on admissions, residency placements etc etc. US News has this on the website.

*This school did not return the U.S. News statistical survey; limited data appear.

i live in brooklyn, and einstein has a much better reputation than downstate. unless money is a major issue, i would go to einstein.

good luck!

I was rejected by einstein, but got into downstate. Although einstein has nicer facilities and located in a better area, I think you will be able to do a lot more in downstate. Even the interviewer at einstein told me to pick downstate because of the price...but then again, I am biased because I got no love from einstein.
