Many regard EK 101 and TPRH verbal workbook to be the two best sources for verbal practice besides the AAMC tests. I want to know which book represents the AAMC passages the most, so I can use that book as practice closer to the end of my schedule with the AAMC practice tests.

Also, how many passages a day would be a good idea? If I have about 4-5 months till real MCAT

Let me know and THANKS!

In my opinion, I think the AAMC practices were a combination of both. They had the dry type of passages from TPRH, and more of the trickier questions of 101. from the general concensus, 101 seems to have more intersting passages but their questions are tougher. TPRH has more boring passages, but their questions may be easier to some.

Best path might be to work with both books

I found the EK book to be way too easy, and I only scored an 11 on VR, so I'm not some VR master. Their passages lack ambiguities and whatnot that the MCAT is riddled with.Everything seems rather straightforward and easy to wrap your brain around.

An 11 is a very great score. The average VR at Harvard is 10.7. People who score 13's on VR can EASILY score 11 VR.

Yes, EK passages can be easy, but some are at the appropriate level. The passages on my real MCAT and AAMC 11 weren't that much different from EK. The other AAMC I took (AAMC 3) had a harder VR in my opinion. There two passages on that test that were just difficult and poorly written.

PS: I got 10's on AAMC 3 and 11 VR's. I made a 9 on the real exam. My EK average was a 9.5 (mostly 9's and 10's).

Nothing will compare to the AAMCs when it comes to Verbal.

But like everyone has said... you should do as many as possible to get your timing and verbal skills up to par. Those two sources are probably the most recommended on this forum.

For me, EK 101 was easier to read compared to the real test... but that may be also because it's on PAPER as opposed to the real test being on the computer. I focus more and read faster on paper as opposed to reading on the computer. This could be a factor you may want to consider before getting too comfortable with your paper test scores. I've seen plenty of people on this forum (including myself) that have been super disappointed with their actual verbal score even though we were averaging 9 to 11 on practice.

Good LUCK!
