Warm air holds more humidity than cold air. Sound travels faster in water than in air, faster in humid air than less humid air.

The faster sound travels, the less the shift in frequency.
The slower sound travels, the greater the shift in frequency.

This may be better demonstrated with the equation. I'm still not great with that equation. Maybe someone else can do the equation part.

It should be easy to see that when the effect depends on the ratio between the speed of receiver/sender and the speed of propagation in the media. If the latter increases, the effect on frequency decreases.
