hey all, i've got another quicky for whoever has an answer on hand:
elastin contains few hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine residues (in contrast to collagen) however, oxydation of lysine side chains proceeds crosslinking in elastin fibers, which leads to its high elastic character. this seems to be a contradiction, no?

"oxidation" is a general form of "hydroxylation". There are other ways to oxidize aa residues...
 
Don't confuse collagen's hydrogen bonding hydroxyprolines, and its cross-linked hydroxylysines, with elastin's unique cross-linking with amino-acids, desmosine and isodesmosine.

In other words, it is NOT the hydroxylysines and hydroxyprolines in elastin doing the bonding.
