Hi everyone,
I'm entering third year and have a couple days to decide what I want to do my only third year elective in. In terms of career, right now I'm probably most interested in doing an internal medicine subspecialty like heme/onc or infectious diseases. A guy in the class ahead of me though told me not to waste my elective (we only get about two more electives 4th year before having to submit our residency apps) in an internal medicine subspecialty because I can probably get a feel for that from my two months of required medicine. He said to use the elective to explore something completely unrelated to any required rotations like anesthesiology. To top it off, I'll be doing the elective as my very first rotation due to the way the schedule works out, so I'll probably make a fool of myself on a daily basis 🙂 I don't know if this would be an additional argument to do something random, so I don't screw up my chances in one of the fields I'm interested in. I'd be interested in hearing if the rising 4th years or anyone else on this site would tend to agree or disagree with that.
Thanks!
