I'm doing 2 electives after my first rotation which is Family medicine. They're each 1 week electives - Ortho Surgery, and Urology which is good because if I make a complete fool of myself, they wont grade me down (it's pass/fail - well they could fail me...). I wanted to find out what would be a good resource to study from to get ready for them. Do I need to start Surgery Recall and then some ortho book or....well basically I have no idea how to prepare for it, and what they would expect of me in 1 week. So any experiences/advice welcome.

If you already have recall, just quickly go over the chapter on gloving/OR sterile technique.
For urology, I borrowed a Blueprints Urology (fits in white coat pocket). My urology rotation was also not graded and i didn't have an exam at the end of my rotation...but the book covered the basics/urological emergencies.

I haven't done ortho yet so i can't really give any advice on that.
Find out if you have an exam in either elective, and consider asking your resident early on in your rotation if they know of any good resources for a student.

...and it is probably impossible to fail a P/F elective 🙂
