elective grades

Ours are PURELY subjective....which can be great..or can TOTALLY kill you....All of 3rd and 4th year are like that for my school....

Ours are purely subjective and Pass/Fail. So if you do the work, it's easy truckin'

Depends on the school, depends on the elective. All electives are pass/fail at my school. Some electives have exams, the majority don't. Pretty much, you just have to show up everyday and do your work and you'll pass.

we keep the same grading system for electives, but they are purely subjective.. b/c family medicine and neuro are required 4-week rotations that can be taken in 4th year, and everyone is required to do 2 ward sub-I's in 4th year, it's just too confusing to change the grading system I suppose. about 15-20% (though I suspect more actually in some rotations) get honors in each 3rd year clerkship, and 40-50% in 4th year electives/Sub-I's. But as many people will tell you on here, H's are oh so easy to get as long as you have good interpersonal skills and teamwork and manage not to piss anyone off, and if you don't get them, BEWARE, or you will be one of the 1% of US grads not to match in IM or FP 🙄 one person on here even said I should kill myself if I were to get a Pass in Medicine (I don't believe I did, still pending, but I suppose I should expect the worst and continue to harshly berate myself acc. to the med student logic), and I don't think he was joking..scary. anyway, the rambling aside, I think electives in your specialty of choice can be good for getting strong LOR's, esp. if your attendings are dept. chairmen and/or well-known in their field.
