I a med student from Australia seeking to do an elective at uni of toronto for 4 weeks in Feb 2009...does anyone have any advice on which specialties would be worthwhile? Much appreciated!

hello, i was able to do 1 months rotation each in General Internal Medicine (at Mt. Sinai Hospital) and Psychiatry (at St. Michael's Hospital) last year for my electives. I'm a Canadian IMG.

which specialties are you interested in for residency? application is pretty straightforward: you go to the U of T website, download the application form and accomplish what they have on the checklist and send it back to them via mail. you get to choose the electives you like and they will TRY to accommodate your request as to which hospitals you want to do your electives in- all the hospitals they will place you are great teaching hospitals. once approved, they will send you all the information by mail- rotation start and end dates, insurance and all other info.

good luck! 🙂

is it really difficult to get elective placement? alot of competition?

as long as you apply and get the requirements early, you should be able to get your preferred electives. check out the school's website for deadlines.

good luck. 🙂

will, say, having previous observorship experience during year1 in canada help in getting year4 elective? or is it just not relevant?
