I know I am getting a bit ahead of myself but I am really excited.
What electives are good for the prelim year as a neuro person? I am wondering what would complement neuro while still being different enough to be fun and challenging.

I have heard suggested and was thinking about radiology, cardiology and rheumatology. What do you guys think about doing rads during intern year to get a leg up on scans and stuff? Is it neccessary or is it beaten to death as neuro PGY-2?

I know that Im gonna try to do everything i will not get to do later on. but at the same time, we dont have too much leg room in terms of free months to do electives, so i will prob go for a cards for ekg and echo exp. and rads. thats my $.02

I did a PM&R elective earlier this year as an MS-4 and thought it was great. It really supplements neuro well. I spent most of my time with a guy who does spinal cord injury, so I got to practice my periphreal neuro exam a lot. Also, at that institution, PM&R did some of the EMG's, so I got some exposure to that as well.

How much elective time do you have??

Rhematology is a really good choice. I think all your choices are solid. I would consider pulmonolgy is a good idea if interest in sleep. And I think ID would be good to. (I guess when it comes down to it, almost every subspecialty of medicine is important!)

My electives are two two-week electives and a four week elective. My plan is to do my psych requirement in my four week block along with two weeks of rheum and two weeks of neuro rads. I am not doing my prelim year at my residency location due to family reasons, but the program directors at my top two choices (one univ and one community) for prelim have both assured me that this is a common selection of the neuro prelims.
