Anyone have an electronic stethoscope? How do you think it compares to a regular one - especially for identifying murmers? Thanks!

The electronic stethoscopes are expensive, but they are wonderful. I use one because I am hard of hearing, and I can identify murmurs quite well (whereas I cannot hear anything out of a regular stethoscope). My friends with good hearing have borrowed my stethoscope and think it is amazing. I would not have bought it if I did not have a hearing problem, but if you do have the money, it might be worth the investment.

I'm in a dilemma of whether I should be getting one too, but it's great that Littmann offers a trial period for their 3000 electronic. If you don't like it, then just return it and they'll only charge you for delivery.

I've heard electronic scopes have fallen out of favor with many Docs because you can actually hear too well. They found they were picking up lots of sub-clinical findings and working pts. up when there was really nothing wrong.

Would they give you a discount with a diagnosed hearing loss?? I have a 35% hearing loss in the left ear and I used to have a 40% hearing loss in the right ear (I had surgery to correct it so it's less than 2% now). For me, my hearing loss was/is one of my biggest worries about entering the profession because I would not be able to detect the subtleties of a heart murmur or be able to take an accurate blood pressure due to my hearing loss. Just wondering because I saw those electronic stethoscope as well and I know I will have to buy one regardless of how expensive they are 🙁
