I've heard in certain circles that they are doing away with Step 1. Is this true? If so, who will this affect with respect to medical school classes (i.e. Class of 2012, 2013, etc...)? What will replace it?

Thank you in advance

If anything, it will resemble the Canadian versions of the licensing exams where the MCCEE is taken during 4th year and is a mixture of Step I & II and is essentially pass/fail. Then two other exams MCQEE I & MCQEE II are taken after. Nothing much will change except more emphasis on applying more basic sciences to clinical scenarios.

Nothing will change for any current students, other than maybe the MD/PhDs. This kind of change takes a long time, and they would announce it at least a year in advance of any change.
