Hey guys
just was wondering if I could get opinions on whether or not you guys think it is too late in "audition/interview season" to do an EM audition rotation in October?

I may or may not be over thinking my schedule...

thanks for any advise

Definitely not. I will most likely end up at either the program I rotated at during the beginning or end of October.

Not too late, but it would be ideal if you can get 2 SLOEs in earlier. Some places will not give you an interview invite until your application is complete.

Earlier the better. I was told it wasn't too late, so I finished my away mid October, but I wouldn't do it that late again if I could do it over. My SLOE came in later, obviously, and I think it cost me some interviews. I would finish it earlier if at all possible. If you'll already have a bunch of SLOEs and the away SLOE isn't as critical, it won't be as big a deal.

I would recommend having your ERAS application with 2 SLOE complete prior to your October rotation. October is definitely not too late to audition but a SLOE from that rotation might not be ready until mid-November, and you would like to have your app complete before then. I did EM rotations in July/August, submitted ERAS September 1, had SLOEs by mid September.

thank you for your replies guys, a dumb question though: what is SLOE? have never heard that term before? I assume its a type of letter of recommendation...

standard letter of evaluation.

it's the SLOR of 2014.

Standardized letter of evaluation, its basically a way for PDs to evaluate you compared to other students. Check the CORD website if you want to see the real thing. It can really only be filled out by a medical student coordinator at a given hospital because it asks where you stand relative to other students that have rotated there.
