Hi all...

Now that all of the match day votes have been locked, I was just wondering what programs the rest of you EM people thought were the best as far as reputation for quality of training. I know that it's just opinion, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. Lets say top 5...Here's mine:

1. Hennepin County Med Center, Minneapolis
2. Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte
3. UCLA Harbor
4. Denver
5. U C Davis

I really liked
Maricopa, Indiana, and Louisville...but there were many more.

Here are some on my list as far as reputation goes... (not necessarily in this order)

1. Carolinas
2. Hennepin County
3. Vanderbilt
4. Pittsburgh
5. UCLA- Harbor
6. Maricopa
7. UNC-Chapel Hill
8. Methodist (Indiana)
9. Christ
10. Denver

After interviewing last year, matching, and (literally) talking to many dozens of EM faculty and residents across the country, I would have to say there were ~7 programs that people repeatedly said were in the top 5 (in no particular order):

Denver
U. Cincinatti
Highland (in San Fran)
Hennipen
Carolinas
Pitt
UCSD

Other good ones:

Jacksonville
UCLA-Harbor
UNM
Methodist (Indiana)

Up and coming:

UT-Southwestern
Vanderbilt

This does NOT mean that others programs are bad or anything. It just means that these are the ones that I heard were the best over and over from faculty and residents 🙂

The places that you guys have put are the same places that I heard great things about out on the interview trail...can't believe that I forgot to put Cincinnati and Indiana on my list...heard the exact same thing about UT-Southwestern...definitely an up and coming program. Regions in St. Paul is also an up and comer...solid program.

Add Medical College of Wisconsin as "up and coming"...a very "well rounded" program that takes care of its residents (something I place in VERY high regard).

Not to be nit-picky but...Highland is in Oakland, across the Bay from SF. Stanford EM residents rotate through SF General and UCSF EM residents are in Fresno.

I hear the Jacobi EM program (da Bronx) is fairly well known on the east coast. After doing residency there one can get great jobs on the east coast.
