This seems like such a supportive board!! I hope you can help me...I am a PGY1 EM and I've always liked Peds EM but wanted the adult side too. Now I'm in a miserable situation where I left my boyfriend and support system in NYC and was thinking about just trying to transfer until I started working in the Peds-ED. I think I really want to work with kids and that EM is not the match for me. Going through match again makes me almost cry since I didn't get what I wanted the first time around and I'm so nervous to have to to go through it again. Is it possible to switch into PGY-1 off cycle peds? Can I switch for a PGY-2 from EM?
I haven't talked to my PD yet as I'm just feeling out the waters. I know my program loves me and wants me on the pre-chief track but I know that I have to make myself happy. I could really use some advice. Thanks so much

I would check the other threads regarding residency switches, but EM to peds is doable. Getting in at the PGY 2 level may not work, because there's a lot of intern rotations you just wouldn't get as an EM resident, specifically nursery, heme/onc, which can be pretty different from anything you did in the adult world. You'll likely get some credit for the work you've done however; it may just be considered 'elective' credit.

Talk to your local PD. They will have the most helpful information and connections.

Have you thought about peds EM? It's a good field and you can get into it after a peds residency.
