Hi everyone, I just had a question for those who are in optometry school or have been admitted...how long did you have to wait after the interview to hear back, and did they notify you first by email or the good old fashion letter in the mailbox? I'm going alittle stir-crazy waiting. Thanks for any responses 🙂

Well, it really depends on the school. I was admitted to several different schools and I received all different types of admittance notifications - one was letter form, a few called me personally, and I believe one was even via e-mail. So it really does depend on just what schools you're waiting to hear from... If you're wondering what type of response to expect from certain schools you applied to, call them! Its not going to hurt your chances in any way...You'll find that most schools are very understanding when it comes to the admissions process and any questions you might have! I was lucky enough to be admitted to most places after a few days following my interview because of high OAT/gpa, but most places generally let you know at least something within 2-3 weeks from what I understand. When I interviewd at PCO in November I was notified of my acceptance by e-mail after like 2-3 weeks and then I got an official letter in the mail at the beginning of December. When I interviewd at SCCO on a Saturday in January, they mailed their response that monday so I knew I was accepted in about a week. At UHCO I was notified of an interview, and about a month or so later I was accepted. My friends that interviewed before x-mas found out fairly quickly, while those who have been interviewing since then waited about a month or so before the got feedback, or are still awaiting a decision.

When I interviewed at UMSL, after the interview was done, they told me "right then and there" that I was accepted. They had an acceptance certificate printed up, and they took my "mug shot" with the Dean...When I interviewed at SCO, I was being considered for a regional contract seat. They made me wait for something like 6 or 8 weeks before they told me I didn't get the contract, but was accepted...

Thanks everybody! I am still waiting. Hey UABSO2010, I did think about contacting the school, but was alittle nervous on it since I didn't want to look like I was rushing them. But like you said, they probably would be understanding about it. Until then, I guess I am still in "waiting purgatory"

My friend who applied in October and had yet to be asked an interview, finally received a response from UHCO. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly what he wanted to read 🙁 He is stll waiting to hear from one more school, I wish him and everyone else who is waiting GOOD LUCK
