Who'd have thought that the formation of a cute fuzzy baby would be such a pain to understand?

Tomorrow is my first Gross and Developmental exam, and because there was so much to learn with the upper and lower limbs, I've kinda ignored the beginning embryo lectures. I would like to cry now. 😱

Anyway, I'm just venting on my study break.

that it is.

Its starting to make me reevaluate my stance on abortion, as I'm starting to hate embryos

I agree. I've managed to get by on memorizing the derivatives and winging the details on spiraling cushions and neural plate induction. 👎

first two weeks :WTF?!?
past three weeks: not so bad

SPREAD THE WORD!!! THE EVILNESS OF EMBRYO!!

If I fail anatomy because of the embryo compartment, I'm just going to cry. Actually, I recommend using the BRS book for Embryology. It's very succint, good diagrams and easy to understand instead of your overblown molecular/genetics of embryology book you probably have.

Though the prof himself said, "I hate embryo.. but you have to learn it so what can I do?"

Just remember, Every answer in the first Embryology exam is AER. That or "two tubes".

LOL. I went with "mesenchyme"...

Unless it's placental, it's derived from epiblast cells. That's all I know.

OP, you are so right.... 😛

dude, what happened to vitelline arteries/veins? i think they should definitely be added to the list...

and TTSD, totally with you on that one... luckily, there weren't too many embryo questions dominating our first exam. 🙂

 That was one of the answers on the test. The trilaminar embryo is made up of three layers that are derived from where?

Actually, the embryo on the test wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. But no worries, I still think Embryology is the science of satan. :meanie:

Yeppers, add me to this list.

Folks, you have to choose your battles. I've just added embryo to the list of things that I'm going to graduate from medical school without knowing. Seriously. The book might as well be in Swahili for the comprehension I can achieve. Ditto for the lectures.

The baby forms. 👍 If it doesn't it either miscarries or goes to the NICU after birth. 👎 Unless it has osteogenesis imperfecta I can sign it off as orthopedically stable. And that is going to have to count as the sum total of my embryology education 😉

HAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAH!

That is the greatest thing I've read in a long time!

 very funny

But I have to disagree, Embryology (in the words of one prof) is positively elegant! I will gladly trade you those damn cell signaling cascades with all those friggin' abbreviations for an Embryo test any day of the week. Physiology is evil.

Is anybody else sick of the word "splanchnopleure?" Wtf kind of word is THAT, anyway? F'ing embryologists.

That's actually one of the few things I like about embryology.

I just like the word splanchnic for some reason...its fun to say...SPLANCHNIC!!!! 😀

yeah, and at least there's always Sonic Hedgehog........but splanchninc is tough to beat :horns:

No, my favorite is:

Meningohydroencephalocele

That's 25 letters, I counted.

It should be, Meningesbrainventricleout, at least you know what the hell it is.

The people that coined these embryo terms should be beaten.

I am really tired of everything coming from a flat disc, no wait, now it's a trilaminar layer. No, now it's a freakin' tube. What's up with this bending tube ...

I agree with the poster above who said something about cute, smiling babies somehow come from this evil mess known as embryology ... how is that possible ? 😡

I went out and purchased the Sonic Hedgehog collection for GameCube after the lecture where we were introduced to this lovely factor.
