Hi all. I'm doing an externship at Emory in October and November. I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out with some suggestions on where I could live during that time. Thanks in advance

Yeah, no problem man. I did an EM rotation down there and stayed at the on-campus dorms (Grady campus). Cant remember the name of the building... but it's a stone's throw from the hospital. The upshot is the location and the cost, only ~$150/mo. The downside is that the building is an old nursing dorm from the 50s, and you will have to share a room with one other student, share a bathroom with another connecting room (suite-style). The dorms are walking distance to underground Atlanta and the Coke museum I believe.

Good luck at good ole' Grady, great EM program - but always, always slammed. They ended up #2 on my list =)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm doing an elective at Emory too.......do you need a car there if you are staying at the dorms across the street? I called them and one lady told me no but she didn't inspire too much confidence in me......just wanted to get a student's perspective.

Thanks

You really don't need a car if you're staying at the on-campus dorms; Grady is literally on the same block, about a minute walk from the building. Also, there is a cool indoor market down the street where you can get some grub, as well as a good wing restaurant (which is strangely run by several Asians). I would not recommend the Grady cuisine, unless you like to have a lot of... thinking time. 🙄

Yeah, the people that run the dorm room didn't strike me as Rhodes Scholars. But for $150/mo, who can complain? 👍
