Emory med.. P/F?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i wish i knew but I don't. Well I guess that'll make a good topic to address at the interview since you are being evaluated by the medical student as well as the interview commitee

It is definitely all for actual grades--the tradeoff is that Emory med students traditionally score in the top percentiles on boards.

thanks for the info!

I am currious about something. If you transfer into an institution that does grades from a medical school tha also does grades that mean that your GPA carries over?? Or do you start all over?

My friend is trying to transfer to Emory.. He goes to a school in NY that has grades as well. I think he is seeing this as "cleaning his slate" of grades.. But I am sure it is not that simple... hmm

I'd like to know which med school has below average board scores, because they somehow all seem to advertise that they have top scores. Based on Emory's matriculant MCAT of a 32, it is quite likely that their Step I score is in the mid 220s, which correlates well with the credentials of their incoming class, but doesn't indicate any particular value added. If you know otherwise (your admininstration gives out the actual number, for example), please share.

While I don't have exact numbers, for the past several years at Emory Med, around 20%+ have scored at or above the 99th percentile on Step I.

While that is good, a lot of schools can claim that or much better.

One thing for sure is that I would never go to a med school that isn't pass/fail however. I have talked to students at graded schools and they are clearly more stressed out.

I don't think this is quite true. I go to graded school but I don't feel like I am stressing more because of grades. I think I will have the same amount of stress if I went to pass/fail school. I am just studying so that I can pass the classes. Grades on your first two years doesn't matter that much, at least not much as your board score. At emory I think people are stressed during test time not because of grades, but because we take our test on every subject in one day. But we have time to relax after the test since we won't get another test until six weeks later. I really think that the grading system doesn't have big an impact once you start med school. So you shouldn't judge a school by their grading system.
