Emory, Vandy, VCU, MCG oral surgery

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know much about these programs? Has anyone externed or interviewed there, is it a good place for an externship?

You'll have a great experience at Emory. Very fun for externships. You do a lot and see a lot. They're all great programs from what I hear.

i don't know if you are externing or interviewing there but I externed at vandy last year...good program...they have their own o.r. suite at the clinic...children's hospital is just across the street and do surgeries there also...i remember scrubbing in on a cherubism case of then faculty dr. reddi....veterans hospital is also across the street and you will get to pull plenty of teeth...dr. mckenna is a good guy...dr. boyd was recovering from his accident when i was there, so i didn't get to see him that much...the clinic is the faculty's private practice office, so most of the residents see the faculty's patients, which means they do half of everything, like taking out thirds (yes, faculty will take out thirds with you) and the other o.r. surgeries...so if you come from a place where staff hardly scrubs in the surgeries with residents, then it will be a different perspective for you...

when i left, they were talking about starting up the resident's own clinic, so i hope that is up and running....the residents i met when i was there were nice...a plus is nashville being a nice city to hang out when you get the chance....good program overall...good one on one mentorship with faculty...they switch teams every 4 months with each attending so everybody gets to work with each staff....i think they have 3 or 4 full-time..hope this helps...good luck
