I'm having the same problem as you--trying to differentiate between my top choices. But I think the main thing is to go with your gut. I've also been asking people of their opinions on particular programs, but in the end it's me who's going to end up at the program. I think most programs will do a good job at training you as a physiatrist, so the key is going to a program that won't limit you. While UCLA may be stronger for outpatient than Stanford, and visa-versa for inpatient, I think both programs will still do a good job at preparing you for either. (I'm not commenting on Emory because I didn't apply or interview there).
I've been trying to make separate "rank lists" based on how much I liked a program's curriculum, residents, faculty, program director, geographical location, etc. And that did show me I was raking one program highly only because it had a big name. But otherwise I didn't find it all that helpful in differentiating the other programs, as I found myself saying of each program "but it just felt right." And how does one really quantify that?
I think in the end, you gotta write yourself a list of the pros and cons of each program, and then just throw that list out the window and go with your heart.
