I'm 26 and I'm applying to optometry school. Since I was 18, I've been working in optical and have worked at multiple places. My question is, when I fill out the optomcas application, how do I distinguish which is which? I worked 8 years in optical and both are optical experience as well. Does anyone know which to put or should I do both?

I worked at an ophthalmologist's office, but I've put that under Employment.

Definitely put it in your employment, but you can also mention it again it your experience ("through my place of employment I also gained optometric experience..." etc etc)

OptomCAS defines optometric experience as "all unpaid experience within an optometric practice, such as shadowing/observation." They define employment as "all paid employment, optometric and non-optometric."

I have a question about the employment section of the application. It asks for both the 'employer's name' and 'contact's name'. Can we list the employer in both spaces or does the contact have to be someone else from the workplace instead? The instructions didn't specify.
