My hospital is on EPIC and they have a feature where you can check the states PDMP with one click through the EMR and it also pops up an option to check anytime you try to prescribe a schedule 2 med.

I know some states like Indiana and Georgia are trying to require checking the database every time you prescribe a sched2.

Do any of you have an EMR that has this option or integration or option to integrate?

Can you explain how to do this in epic? We have it but currently have MAs run PDMP checks on all patients daily for clinic

In our epic, under the PLAN tab, there is smaller tab that says PDMP report (towards teh top of the screen in the patients record in widescreen view). If you just click that tab, it will run the report and open a window in EPIC that shows all the places in your own state that the patient has filled schedule 2 and benzos for the last 12 months. There is also a MEDD tab in PLAN that tells you the daily morphine equivalent dose.

They have also recently activated eprescribing schedule 2 medications through EPIC as well requiring 2-factor authentication through DUO. Before the 2factor auth thing pops up, another screen pops up stating the state law and if we wish to run the PDMP if not done so already, and we can run the report from that screen as well.

thank you for the detail. I don't see that in my view but will inquire with IT. if that autopopulates when you check it even better.

just in case anyone is wondering, there is a company called Apriss Health. They integrate with state pmp and and ehr. Aprima, eclinical, greenway, practice fusion and about 20 other emrs have the ability to instantly check at the time of prescribing but needs to be requested to be turned on.
That company also advertises something called Narxcare to provide analytics to see if the patient may develop issues.

Depends If your state PDMP program is integrated with EPIC. I have the same but does not work well for me esp for drug reports.

Is it worth paying 3rd and 4th party companies to "integrate" this into the emr when it is free by going directly to the source at the state pdmp?

I think in my state they are making it mandatory so emrs are just building it in. I am sure they are passing along some sort of cost or they are doing internal integration. Its kind of a cost vs convenience issue if you have to pay. Click on tab in the emr and it pulls the info for you, versus logging in, and entering patient data one by one. I guess just having the MA doing works too.

some emrs i looked into have surescripts integration so though not specific to sched2 meds, it lists all meds filled in the last 12 months (info from surescripts), regardless of state lines (or so they claim)
