A question for the residents and docs out there (or anyone who is in the know) ... is the EMRA ABx guide for the Palm/PocketPC the standard ubiquitous program in use across EDs? Are there others that are preferable for one reason or another? Thanks!

No, I've not used it but it has been criticized as not being up to date.

Standard for palm is the Johns Hopkins infectious disease guide. Regularly updated and free. but they don't do a PC version.

For PC the Sanford guide is updated yearly, but not free ($29?). the paper sanford has been the standard across Medicine for >30 years.

I am also thinking of buying a new PDA. I'm wondering what programs you guys really use on a regular basis besides Epocrates and Sanford. Are there any other ones that would be useful to have as an intern? Thanks!

as mentioned before, Jons Hopkins is a good one. It is the only one I use, as I find the Sanford Guide not user friendly at all. Very rarely I may "consult" it when JHU Abx guide doesn't quite give me the info I am looking for.
