So, what kind of encounters have you had with district supervisors?

Yesterday (Saturday), the district supervisor decided to pay us a visit. :scared: It could have been really bad but ended well.

He was pretty unhappy when he came in (walking into the pharmacy and seeing me out of dress code [I was packing up the expired meds to send back, and it was hot, therefore I took off the lab coat and my shirt wasn't tucked in, and wearing faded black jeans.])

First he said he was gonna write me up, but I got a lot of the expired stuff done within the 30 minutes he was there, thus he changed his mind and just gave me a warning for the future. He said that if his boss walked in without him, that his job would have been on the line as well.

I'm not sure what they would prefer, someone who looks clean but is wearing casual clothing, or someone wearing shirt + tie + slacks, but sweating like a pig.

I'm glad you created this thread because I have a story that was similar to yours. I used to work at Rite Aid and I was about 2 months into working there when our District Manager and his collegues paid one of their visits. Since I was new there, I didn't know the dress code and wore a regular white t-shirt(no collar) behind my smock. I wasn't even wearing a tie. I will never forget that day when I walked into the store and the district manager was right at the entrance door with his other collegues. I remember my pharmacy manager telling me the day before, to wear a dress shirt with a tie behind my smock. I took her lightly because I had been wearing the t-shirt for 2 months now and no one made a big deal. When I walked into that store to start my shift, I saw a group of men wearing suits near the entrance of the door and I started walking really fast trying to avoid them. I heard someone called my name from behind me. I turned around and saw my district manager walking towards me with this angry look. He took his finger and took me by the neck of my shirt and pulled it about 5 inches toward him and said "Don't you ever wear this t-shirt ever again". From then on, I wore a dress shirt and tie every day.

I don't pay attention to the DMs, there will be a new one every few months anyway.

That sounds like borderline assault to me.

haha yeah i wore wrinkled khakis and shirts EVERY DAY. It was great.

But my DM was pretty damn nice...we were scared ****less of him but he was always easy going on visits in person. He'd point things out and whatnot, but usually he would just talk to our lead tech + Rx manager. Any info would be passed along "down the chain" accordingly.

We had an employee show up to work in jeans (first day) and it happened to fall on the day of the DM visit. The DM didn't say anything, our Rx manager said it was her first day, and the DM just told him (manager) to remind her of the dress code. No flip out or anything. This same employee then just stopped showing up to work PERIOD one day. What a *******.

We've had area VP's visit...mostly ignored us minions, just talked to the store/rx managers.

Didn't you have a post about this topic before?

Wear the shirt and tie. People will respect you more, and you won't look like some random schmuck off the street.

What's wrong with dressing professional?? It's not your DM's fault that you can't use common sense.

yeah im not sure what's really wrong with somebody yelling at you for coming in to work in jeans, at least if you're not living in the middle of nowhere. the grabbing the shirt thing alarms me though

Ehh, I work in 2 different districts. One district allows black jeans, other district doesn't I guess. The store I started it had pharmacists wearing jeans on the weekends.

Funny thing, I found a picture of exactly what I was wearing on the internet. I was like the guy on the right side in this picture.

Except you're not Kal Penn, and you're not a physician doing a fellowship in diagnostic medicine.

I'd be pretty pissed off if my doctor was dressed like that, to tell you the truth. I expect a little bit of professionalism from professionals I deal with.

I don't know what you're talking about with the district-by-district policy, either. Dress code is a policy that comes from CVS corporate.

Stop making excuses and just wear a shirt and tie.

How do you tell someone in the hospital is a pharmacist intern/student? Just look for the most professionally dressed person.

Well, I expect Pharmacists (male) and Students (male) to wear professional dress. There is no reason why male pharmacists cannot go out and buy themselves a few nice shirts and ties. Students I give a little leeway for financial reasons; but you can go to marshalls and buy a nice tie for 10 bucks! No excuses. Females can wear their blouses, skirts, khakis, but no jeans. It's a professional environment, dress like it.

I completely agree. I'm dumbfounded by people who think they should be respected as healthcare professionals, trusted by everyone, and make 6 figure salaries, BUT...not have to dress the part??? It's ridiculous.

My Partner and I take dress very seriously...we spend bucks on our wardrobes!!!Almost like a competition! Whos got the nicer ties on the next day!! We take pride on our professional dress...patients always comment on dress...Trust me, professional dress goes a long way🙂

woohoo... minimum wage and you want me to wear a tie? lol

i kept a tie...in the car just in case.

i forgot the rule, were cvs techs allowed to wear the blue cvs polo + lab coat?

Dress professionally Sparda. You really have no idea how much trouble you could have gotten into and WILL get into. Who was your DM?

I was hoping that we would be allowed to just wear the CVS shirt with a lab coat but they said no.

So y'all don't really believe in dress down weekends I guess?

I'm pretty sure it's shirts and ties only for pharmacy folks.

Although have you seen the new CVS polos? They're pretty stylin'.

Optimally, I'm praying for all the healthcare fields to switch to wearing scrubs at all times.

I guess what I'll do for now is just wear the shirt + tie with some cargo khakis and just change out of that when I'm leaving. Although, the one thing they will never get me to do is to get a haircut. I'm going for long hair.

A young looking guy named Henry. I know the previous DM would have completely flipped out.

I don't recommend the name drop here...tends to let people know who you are. I think I have a pretty good idea of what store you work at.

But you're right, the previous DM would have destroyed you. Let that be a lesson.

Have you worked in the area recently? I thought you're up in Buffalo or something?

Never said my "techs" had to wear Jos. A bank ties or shirts. I realize we cant expect them to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on cloths, but a $10 tie and a 14 dollar shirt may be suitable. Ive actually donated some of my good ties to techs...We all look appropriate for work!

It's the damn slacks that I hate. I'm trying to find "professional" pants that are as comfortable as jeans or pajamas. Anyone know any good websites? I've heard that corduroy is a pretty comfy material.

ooo, you work in Long Island? Lucky break for you. Are you sure hes the DM? and not the pharmacy supervisor?

That's what I meant, he's the district pharmacy supervisor. I'm not so sure if the DM's even care about pharmacy. I know that we recently got reamed by LP because supposedly there are to be no jackets or coats or bags in the pharmacy, and we can't use the pharmacy back door for any other reason than an emergency exit. If we are doing vials, caps, garbage, we gotta take them the long way around.

The LP stuff is across the entire region, it's a big pain in the neck.

I'm at school in Buffalo, lived and worked in your current district for five years.

While we are still on CVS topic, does anyone know if we're allowed to bring in one of those portable iPod dock speakers and just play our music instead of the crap that CVS has been playing for the last 3 years.

WE NEED SOME HARD ROCK AND HEAVY METAL! I've had it with Rick Astley. I get rickrolled enough by my friends, no need for CVS to do it too. I even had the displeasure of being rickrolled at the last Opening Day at Shea Stadium because the Mets decided that they will let the Internets decide the 8th inning song.

I've interviewed several places where staff pharmacists wear scrubs, even when working decentralized on the floor, and clinical (rounding) pharmacists dress biz casual, no scrubs allowed.

A couple places had certain colored scrubs required - off course the color not given for free by the hospital!

Yeah, that set a really terrible tone for the entire season. That blue and orange hunk of garbage deserved better...

I've never had a problem having my own music, as long as it isn't ridiculously loud. Q104 goes pretty well with the normal crowds.

Don't forget the cvs commercial interruption! I still think the creepiest one was the baby/adult one.

Anyway yeah I walked into CVS the other day and y'all are still playing the same music that I listened to when I last worked...in August. That's like an eternity in the typical CHR/Top 40 cycle. Man, that place will slowly drive a man insane...haha.

yes...yes...yes...

That's no lie. I'll be going to a code in a fleece zip up, black cargos, and a cup of cappuccino with a couple of pharmacy students that decided that they want to go see the excitement in suit pants and a white lab coat following me around.

It had to have been the goofiest looking thing in the hospital at that moment.

I don't get why people don't like wearing a tie, I have quite a collection and it gives me pleasure looking spiffy.

Have fun having people mistake you for the janitor.

Except for one Coca Cola tie, a green tie and one Greyhound tie I only have Jerry Garcia Ties. I get comments all of the time....

No you're absolutely right! They're really unique...and not all men can pull them off! If I was a guy, I'm sure I'd have a million ties (much like I have shoes 😳😉).

I use to wear Jerry Garcia ties but the quality was...eehhh...I buy Jos A bank ties on sale and Daniel Cremieux Limited edition ties...Good seven fold quality ties! And they fold a nice windsor knot...makes you look and feel like million bucks! And i stay away from pleated pants...they have to be flat front!

What's the difference between pleated and non-pleated?

Note: You are talking to someone who rarely shops for "professional" clothing, last time I bought anything of the sort was a suit that I haven't worn in months.

Pleated pants have a small pleat down the front above either leg, taken in at the waistband, beginning below the waistline, and they just don't look very nice on most people. The pleat can even cause the legs to look wider at the waist, giving men an unfavorable waist-to-hip ratio. Flat-front pants have no pleat at all, and look better on most body types.

Pleats = absolutely horrible and anyone who wears them-->ban
Non-pleats = 👍

excuses...thats what this society is made of...excuses...wear a larger neck size...

What if I think ties look ridiculous? A stupid little dangly piece of cloth hanging from my neck? What the hell is that? It's proof that people don't critically analyze the everyday things in their lives. If they did, ties would have went out a centuries ago. The Romans had it going on. Robes, baby. Now that's comfort.

What you think doesnt matter...your a hospitalist, you wear scrubs or whatever, dont you 🙂 And society accepts ties as professional, not robes...and i agree with you, robes would be much more comfortable, but again, ties are whats accepeted...and I accept them...and i have analyzed, critically, everyday "things" in my life...cause i dont give a crap about everyday things in "everybody elses lives...and besides, my company requires them and they pay my "huge" salary, so i follow the rules...i wear the dangly piece of cloth...with lots of class...and i look good in them...and i feel good wearing them...and god damn, I look good in the dangly peice of cloth 🙂
