Hey guys! I am currently 22 years old senior. I’ll be graduating in December of 2017 with an overall GPA of 2.7. About a year ago, I decided to go to pharmacy school. Now, my stats aren’t very good. I have had to take Genetics twice, A&P twice, and Organics (1 and 2) three times. So a lot of you might be thinking that I am out of my mind wanting to become pharmacist? Right? Well, I must remind you that I went to a four year college. I had family and financial issues during those years, and of course, I chose friends over studying. Yeah, shocking that a young 18-22 year old making mistakes? WHAT??? Guys, it’s okay to have past mistakes. We are young. We aren’t mature during those ages. College was an exciting time for me because I was free. I could do whatever the hell I wanted and whenever I wanted. Now, that I am 22 and struggling, I realize how those mistake have affected my present and future. But honestly, those mistakes have made me stronger and wiser. They have made me want my goal of becoming a pharmacist more of an obsession. I am striving to do my best in my academics and also community. I feel more engaged when I volunteer with Pharmacists. I ask questions that I am actually interested in. I enjoy the 5-6 hours of volunteering. I have been reading a lot of post where trolls are bringing people down. Guys, listen to me! If you want and have a passion for something, JUST DO IT (not a Nike endorsement)(LOL). Do not listen to these trolls. They don’t know your reasons for the low gpa or why you were having a bad semester and had to retake a class. Prove them wrong. Become the best you can be. You are smart. You just have to put your mind to it. I want to attend a school in the Chicago area, and hopefully become a clinical pharmacist. TONS and TONS of people have told me it is going to be impossible. Yes, of course, with my stats it seems very impossible. BUT GUESS WHAT I AM GOING TO MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE!!!!!! Yeah, I might not get in the school of my choosing, but where ever I get, I am going to show what I am capable of and make my dreams come true. I hope you will do the same.

God bless.

I am so sorry that I am going to make you feel sad.
If your overall gpa is not calculated by PharmCAS, then it will be lower than 2.7 because you repeated many classes.
You would get in some school but it will be.. not a good school. Many school have minimum 2.5gpa but really really low ranked or new pharm school would accept you if you can get over 80-90 pcat.
Also, of course, they are not full accredited.

What I really think is if you get A grade in third repeated class, not in second, you really need to think about going to pharm school. Even tho pharm school is easier than med school, you have to manage 16-18 hours semester. Well. you would say you had social issues but many students also have their own problems.

Also, I am not that trolls you talked in this post. I also really hate what they are talking. They used to say 200k loan and not jobs and do computer science and also their comments are sometimes not related to the posts at all. I understand how you feel.

However, If the expected GPA was calculated by PharmCAS and it is 2.7 as you said, I would not bring you down. And I am going to say you need to get 90+ pcat and that is it. But repeated classes.. will lower your gpa so much. PharmCAS will gonna average your repeated classes. For example, if you took the same class three times and got C, B-, and A, then your final grade on the class will be 2.9. I dont know what grade you got but if you failed once in the class, then it will be critical.

Also, your post make me think you did not want to be a pharmacist when you enter the college, right?
If you wanted to become a pharmacist and study in Pharm school, you would not want to be free in College.
Many students also feel free and live alone but they study hard and maintain their gpa even when they have their own social issues.

I gave you so much depression to you so I will give you one encouragement for you.

When I was in interview, the admission commette says they offer interview to low gpa students because they understand financial, family, and health problems affect gpa alot. So you really need to think about how to explain them really well. Most schools have closed interview so you need to write your circumstances of college life in supplemental.

I truely hope you can overcome this process. good luck and if you have more question, feel free to ask.

Somebody's setting themselves up for a MAJOR heartbreak. I legimately feel sad for the OP.

If you're really keen on getting into pharmacy school, then I suggest you complete a Masters program and do well on the PCAT before even thinking about applying.

This is how the PharmD is viewed now. I guess any respect for the field is just about gone now.

I agree with you lol.
But you also made a generalization error too bud.

Not really, maybe I'm ignorant to the other professions, but I don't think there are as many 2.0 GPAs talking about getting in to those professions.

It honestly feels like there are no standards for pharmacy anymore. Sorry to hijack the thread.

@prepharm20134 It is possible, but it's not necessarily a good idea. You're at risk of failing out of pharmacy school and having a lot of debt due to the outrageous tuition some of them charge. Repeating courses 3 times is unlikely to be allowed in pharmacy school. I hope you have a detailed plan for how you will study and what you will do if you are not allowed to finish your degree.
