Best band: "Cage the Elephant" (Get that CD or download on iTunes. 👍 )

Worst band: "Nickelback" (man, these guys BLOW!... why does anyone listen to that schmaltzy, overproduced, canned, bubble-gum, pseudo-hard rock garbage?)

Best beer: Samuel Adams Imperial Double Bock (surprisingly good, return to "craft" style beer making)

Worst beer: Everything else Sam Adams makes

Best news feature: Here

Worst news feature: -tied- Tiger Woods alleged mistress count & the "Balloon Boy" hoax

Best film: "Inglorious Basterds" (man, I was really pleasantly suprised how good this was... and Tarantino hasn't exactly been on a good streak lately)

Worst film: "Paranormal Activity" (what a let down, B-acted, film-school schlock with a low budget that made WAY too much money at the box office)

Best overall, no specific category: Being able to "Skype" my brother in Barcelona, for free, and see my niece and nephew on a regular basis

Worst overall, no specific category: Anything with the name "Kardashian" in it

I'm sure there's a lot more...

Agreed on the beer. $10 for 4 cans is kind of expensive on a med student's budget, though. Still living on Ziegenbock (when my Texas friends send it) and Yeungling (when my east coast friends send it).

Gotta give some props to Zombieland for best movie. "It's Bill-f**king-Murray!!!" I thought I wasn't gonna like it at all, but I laughed by butt off through that entire movie.

Best Beer: If I can get my hands on it, Negra Modelo or Paulaner Oktoberfest are my favorites.

Their Cream Stout isn't too bad, but he's right on every other SA... Someone was telling me the Guinness was gonna make a winter lager. Haven't seen it. Any truth to that?

even the winter lager??

Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of what "Samuel Adams" started as... I just hate what it's turned into. The Double Bock (yes, it's expensive and only comes in a four-pack) is their current one redeeming brew, in my humble opinion.

There are still a lot of good, true microbrews still out there. It's just sometimes hard to find them. I like the Yuengling, too. Of course, I trained in Philadelphia so it was somewhat of a "local brew" when I was down there.

oh what the hell. I'm bored, so I'll do this

Best band: "Miike Snow" (his self titled album is unlike anything else I listen to, but I dig it. 👍 )

Worst band: Most of the overplayed stuff on the radio.

Best beer: local apple-wheat microbeer

Worst beer: red line ... sorry I just can't drink this.

Best news feature: Palin on Oprah. You could cut that tension with a knife.

Worst news feature: all the air time/printed press wasted on speculating whether the actors from new moon are hooking up with each other.

Best film: "The Hangover"

Worst film: "The Time Traveler's Wife" I'm a girl, and I even thought this was a waste of time.

Best overall, no specific category: Getting my dream practicum for all of 2010.

Worst overall, no specific category: Moving. twice in 09. I hate moving.

Worst. Beerlist. Ever.

Try these:
Chimay Trippel: golden, brassy, sweet, and silky smooth. Complex and out of this world. Skip the red and blue, and go straight to the Trippel.
Rodenbach Grand Cru: a wild ale, fermented with whatever yeast rolls in the window off the neighboring field. Tart, like cherries, but with none added.
Bear Republic Racer 5: typical CA IPA, but the hoppiest I've found.

This was the "best/worst" of 2009. The beers on your list have been around for decades, if not longer... except maybe the last one, which I've never heard of.

Fair enough. I first tried them this year (and you should too), for what that's worth.

Thanks for the tips, man. I've actually had the Trippel before (when I was in Beligium during a tour of Europe). But, the others I'll try.

Chimay is phenomenal. My favorite is the blue. I'm buying this tomorrow, 1500 ml, 9% Magnum Blue

even the winter lager??

Seriously, I love me some winter lager.

Also, I'm confused by non-East Coasters' obsession with Yuengling. I mean it's OK, but really around here (NC) it's considered only a slight step up from Bud/Miller.

If you end up in the NC area, and like amber ales, I highly recommend Red Oak.

Don't you wish you could get the winter lager all year round? I don't think it would take away from the seasonal aspect of it.

Seriously. I have a friend who is obsessed with the Yuengling half and half.

I don't foresee myself making it to that side of the country any time soon ... I bet I can find it online, though. Thanks.
